What matters is love ✰

This week we've studied about the four tales of Geoffrey Chaucer. Geoffrey Chaucer is the father of English Literature, and he is also widely considered the greatest English poet of the Middle Ages.

Me and my group was assigned to report about the Wife of the Bath, while my other classmates was assigned to the 3 other tales which are,

 ✰ The Pardoner's Tale
The Miller's Tale
The Knight's Tale

If i were to choose which one i liked the best out of these 4 tales, i would say, it's definitely the Wife of the Bath. I've read only the summary of it but i was able to catch the idea of the story and with just that, i knew i'm going to like this tale.

The Wife of the Bath is all about a Knight who once assaulted a woman, and with that he was sentenced to death but he was able to get away from the wrath of the King with the help of the Queen. But no, he wasn't saved yet. He had to fulfill the wish of the Queen in order to be saved.

The Queen's wish was to know what women wants more than anything in this world. The Knight searched for the answer everywhere, until he met the ugly old hag in a place, the old woman agreed on answering the Knight's question and in exchange, he had to fulfill her wish too. The woman told him the answer and the Knight went back to the Kingdom happily, and told the Queen the answer. The Queen agreed and with that, the Knight was able to live.

But he also had to fulfill the wish of the old woman, and that wish is for him to marry her. He hesitated but in the end, he also married her. He lived a unhappy life with his ugly wife until it came to the point when his wife asked him to choose.

She'll be pretty but she'll be unfaithful to him.
Or she'll be ugly but she'll stay faithful to him.

The Knight told her to choose whats the best for him, and in the end, the woman became pretty and faithful at the same time.

What i liked the most about this story is the lesson, that i think Chaucer wants to impart to all of the readers. And that is, you don't have to look at one person's face and choose if you'll love that person or not based on how ugly or pretty she/he is. Nowadays, most of the people around me judges every people who doesn't look that good and i think we shouldn't think that way.

Looks doesn't matter. What matters is love. Because once you're inlove, you're in love. Looks doesn't even matter anymore. Another thing i've learned about this story is to not judge a person just by looking at his/her physical appearance.

As they say, "Do not judge a book by it's cover."

And that's what i really liked this story. ✰ :)
